Malgrat de Mar

Malgrat de Mar is a tourist resort with about 18,000 residents. It is located in the northeast part of the region of Maresme. More precisely, it is between Santa Susanna and Blanes. Moreover, it is only an hour’s drive from Barcelona. Malgrat de Mar has the distinction of being on the delta of the River Tordera.The city abounds with excellent hotels and a large number of bars and night clubs, which offer entertainment until the early morning hours. There are also pubs with live music and popular “karaoke” parties. Flamenco bars are also indispensable.Malgrat de Mar attracts many tourists who come back from year to year. How to arrive
Malgrat de Mar is well connected with Barcelona and coastal cities through the highway. However, the closest airport is in Gerona and just about seventy kilometers away is the international airport in Barcelona. From Barcelona, you can take a cab or rent a car. On the other hand, this coastal city is also well connected with a train system called RENFE. The tickets are not expensive and the service is excellent.

Beaches
The city has the best beaches in this part of the region. They are several kilometers long and everyone can easily find a place for relaxation and enjoyment.Malgrat de Mar has several outstanding beaches with golden sand. The most popular is L’Astillero, which is packed with tourists in the peak season. Another nice beach is Tordera.This beach is quite long, so it can seem deserted.Playa de Malgrat is its central urban beach, which received the Blue flag. In addition, there are many tourist facilities such as showers, toilets, ramp access, security services, play areas, access for the disabled, etc. For those who love an active vacation, there is a wide range of water sports.
Along the beaches is placed the promenade, which leads to Santa Susanna.

Tourist Attractions
This resort has lots of interesting historical sites. Among the most interesting is El Castello located in Palafolls. This castle was built between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries. There is also the famous Església de Sant Nicolau, the church from the sixteenth century. This church is also known as the “symbol” of the city. St. Nicholas Church has a neoclassical facade and it is also called the “Cathedral of the Coast” due to its large size.On the other hand, the city abounds in greenery. It has beautiful pine woods in the urban part of the city. Moreover, it has great parks with activities for children.
